There are many procedures that are available to fix your cosmetic dental problems. However, sometimes cosmetic teeth caps can be the best alternative when your whole tooth becomes infected. Other procedures may fix other dental problems but once the entire tooth becomes infected it is best to talk to your dentist about cosmetic teeth caps.

Cosmetic teeth caps cover the whole tooth to help make it stronger and durable. A cosmetic dentist is the person who is able to decide whether or not they will be your best option or whether there are other options for you to explore. There are three types of caps that dentist currently use:

  • Resin and Porcelain Caps: These types of caps are the ones that look the best. When people have these caps put into their mouths it is hard for others to tell that they are not their natural teeth. Since, technology has advanced over time dentists are now able to get them to bond to your teeth very nicely.
  • Gold Caps: Gold caps are not the nicest in appearance so if you care about your appearance it is best to go with resin and porcelain caps. However, gold caps are the ones that fit the most securely to your teeth. Also, other caps are subject for chipping yet with gold caps this is the last thing that you will have to worry about.
  • Porcelain and Metal Caps: These caps are the ones that have the more natural look. However, since they do have metal in them it can be harder for the dentist to match them up to the natural look of the teeth.

What are the pros and cons of cosmetic teeth caps?

  • Resin and Porcelain Caps: The advantages of these caps are they can easy be matched to your natural teeth color and they also help you maintain a beautiful smile. However, the downfall to using these caps are they require more of your teeth to be altered than other types of caps would. Also, they can cause inflammation of your gums.
  • Gold Caps: Gold caps have a lot of advantages that come along with them. First, they are the easiest of the cosmetic teeth caps to be designed. Second, they do not require a large amount of the tooth to be altered. Lastly, they are the healthiest form of caps that can be put in your mouth. However, the downfalls of gold caps are if they are not worn in the back of your mouth they will not look very appeasing.
  • Porcelain and Metal Caps: These caps are known for having a very natural look about them. However, there downfall is because they are made from metal it can be very hard for the dentist to be able to match them to your actually teeth color. Also, as you get older they will cause your gum to reside and in some cases a black line will be visible around the gum line.
